Office & Playroom Tour

Hello friends! Are you doing a second take as you see me show up in your reader? I know, ridiculous, right? Long time no post! Life is crazy, busy, and beautiful but that is a post for another day.

Today I’m linking up with Andrea at Momfessionals for an Office and Playroom Tour.

Let’s start with the playroom!

I went on a mad home organization and decoration binge when I was pregnant with Sullivan. We painted six rooms last summer, and this room was completed just weeks before I gave birth. I told Jason I wanted multi-colored chevrons, I picked out the paint, and he came up with the rest. Love that man of mine who can take my crazy ideas and make something beautiful.

The table and stools are from Target. The cubbies and bins are from Target as well. I wanted Cooper to be able to easily clean up his toys, so I labeled the bins with pictures of what was inside (using clip art). I laminated them for durability and attached them with velcro so I could switch them out as the boys’ interests changed.

This is the other side of the room. The train table doesn’t get much use, sadly. I got a lot of flack from my friends about the art table. It is fully stocked with paint, markers, and crayons so the potential for great messes is huge. I did have a talk with Cooper and explained that he needs to get permissions before using the paint – and for the most part he has complied. The bins to the left and right of the art table hold craft and educational supplies: stickers, sidewalk chalk, art projects, construction paper, coloring books, etc. Again, they are labeled for easy clean up.

As Sullivan becomes more mobile, the art table is getting emptier and emptier. The markers were the first to go – apparently they taste delicious.

The decorations for the room are super fun. During our last Disney trip, I purchased an encyclopedia of Disney characters and took it to all the parks. When we would see a character, I would have them autograph their picture. I framed the pictures in IKEA frames.

The PLAY letters are from Hobby Lobby. I painted them with leftover paint that we used on the wall for the chevrons.

The two large red frames are from Hobby Lobby. I painted them with the red paint we used on the wall. Then I just strung twine on hooks to display Instagram pictures and school work.

Now to the office!

The office was a challenge to decorate. The room is the first room you see when you walk into the house. It does not have doors and it does not have any light fixtures. It was intended to be a formal living room but when you have kids, why would you want that? Instead I decided to turn it into my office.

The challenge was 1) how to make sure I had adequate lighting and 2) how to maximize storage when the room doesn’t have a closet 3) how to keep it clean and organized (because it is open) while still being an actual office.

The furniture is all old – Target and IKEA. The IKEA cubby has moved three times and is still in great shape. I purchased the wicker bins from Hobby Lobby to hold my most used craft and office supplies. I majorly purged my book collection (this entire bookshelf used to hold books!) and kept only my favorites. I’ve moved entirely to digital books anyway, so it was time to let my books go to another home.

The other two bookshelves are both Target and hold pictures and my printer, scale, Silhouette, Xyron, and my laminator. The gold glitter trees are actually Christmas d├ęcor but I love them so they stay out year round.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope to get back into the swing of blogging here soon.
