Catching Up

I really want to try to get back into the swing of blogging, if for nothing else than to document what’s been going on in our lives. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… I blame Twitter for (my) the demise of blogging. It’s just so easy to go on there and share news. I get lazy about bringing it back to my blog, and I think sometimes I fail to realize some of my treasured blog friends aren’t on Twitter. Plus I won’t be able to look back on my tweets the way I can look back on my blog, right?

We went to Edisto for Memorial Day weekend. My mom’s boss has a gorgeous house just one block from the beach and he gives it to her two weeks out of the year. We get a huge group together (aunt, uncle, brother, SIL, niece, nephew, grandparents, friends of the family) and go down for a few days. We sit on the beach, make huge dinner, have homemade desserts, drink, and play board games. I look forward to it each year. This is my “place” – where I really feel like my soul gets quiet and finds rest.

I love seeing my brother’s family interact with Cooper. They live about an hour away, so we don’t see them as much as we would like. My nephew is 11 and is so good with Cooper. If you ask Cooper who his favorite person is, he first says “Jesus” and then he says “Justin.” He loves both his cousins!

One of our favorite Friday night activities is to pick Cooper up from daycare and head to the park. Here’s C and Daddy walking the track. Cooper loves his tricycle, and I love that I can help him steer.

This was Father’s Day 2012. My mother’s father, Cooper, my brother, and my nephew. I don’t think my brother and I look alike – what do you think?

Cooper’s favorite thing to do this summer is eat popsicles. It’s been 100+ here lately, so I let him eat a popsicle in the bathtub. He runs to the freezer and pulls one out before bath time each day.

We’ve also been taking advantage of our neighborhood pool. If you don’t already have a Puddle Jumper for your toddler, get one. It works much better than swimmies. I love Cooper’s madras swim trunks! (Yeah, his hair is crazy. His teacher occasionally gives the boys mohawks.)

We took Cooper to see his first movie a few weeks ago! Here he is posing in the lobby with the Chipmunks. (More madras!) We went to see Madagascar. He did pretty well, although the last 30 minutes of the movie he was pretty antsy.

My parents have a timeshare in Gatlinburg, TN and every summer they take 2 of their grandchildren to the mountains for a week of fun. (Since my brother has two kids, my niece & nephew alternate summers. Cooper will do the same if/when we have another child.) Here’s Cooper all packed up and ready to go. I missed him SO MUCH. I asked him “are you going to miss me, baby?” He replied “No, mama, not at all!” Ouch.

They go, go, go the entire week. Dollywood for 2 days, the water park, Wonderworks, flea markets, the aquarium… Dude was exhausted but every time my mom could get him to stop for 2 seconds and talk to me, he would say “I have fun Mama!”

He came home on Friday and has been stuck to me like glue this weekend! All morning long he keeps running up to me saying “I missed you, Mom!” and “I love you, Mom!” LOVE THIS BOY.

What’s new with you?

Dear (Fill in the Blank)

Hey guys! How are you? How was your weekend? I know it has been forever and a day since I’ve blogged. I’m downloading some pictures now so that I can do a post with some substance and fill you in on what’s been going on with us. Until then, let’s have a little snark with your coffee on Monday morning, shall we?

(Some of these are older… I add them to a note on my phone as I think of them, and it has been a long time since I’ve written one of these posts.)

Dear Ryan Lochte,

Really? A grill? You put a grill in your mouth to accept your gold medal? SMH. Is this the image we want to send to the rest of the world of our American athletes? Frankly, it’s a little gross to me. Although I guess you should get points for your bling being patriotic.

Congrats on the gold, buddy, but let’s not pretend you are a gangsta, mmkay?

Click here to see a picture.

Dear Spoiler,

Why are you surprised that people get mad at you for Facebooking or tweeting the results of the Olympics live? USA is on a time delay, and many want to watch our athletes as they go for the gold. Use some common sense. If Twitter gets mad at your for spoiling the winner of American Idol, they are going to come after you with pitchforks for spoiling the recipient of our first gold medal.

Dear Murphy’s Law,

Why must you bite me in the butt all at the same time? Why do bad things happen in threes? Why must major expensive repairs all come in the same month? I feel like I build up a rainy day fund, you check the balance, and then you hit me up for new tires, brake repairs, and a washer & dryer that needs to be replaced.

I am not made of money.

Money in my checking account, it was nice to see you briefly appear before you left me once again.

Dear Target/Wal-Mart/any department store or fast food restaurant,

Could you please install hooks in each of your bathroom stalls? There is nothing worse than having to loop my 10 pound purse around my neck while I do the pelican crouch and pee because you don’t have a hook for my purse. I shudder at the thought of putting my purse on the bathroom floor.

Dear Users of Said Bathroom,

I don’t think I can adequately express the rage I feel when I walk into a bathroom and there is pee sprinkled all over the bathroom seat. WE ARE NOT MEN. We should be able to pee into the toilet bowl. I get that you don’t want to sit your butt down on the seat. I do. But if you are going to attempt the pelican crouch, please wipe off any resulting drips before you exit the stall. FOR THE LOVE. I should not have to wipe up anyone’s pee besides my own and my child’s.

Dear John Mayer,

I find it hilarious that your feelings were hurt that Taylor Swift wrote a song about you. That’s what you call karma, baby. I’m sure Jennifer Aniston & Jessica Simpson felt the same way. What goes around comes around!

What’s annoying you today?

3OT: Fall TV

Hey guys! I’m so sorry I am posting late this week. Thursday was my 9 year wedding anniversary and I took a few days off to spend time with my husband.

Please stop by my co-hostess’s blog, Cole at All The Small Stuff. She is the best friend a girl could hope to have. (For example, she never yells at me when I post late even though I know she probably wants to… haha!)

3 on Thursday

This week’s topic is:

What three shows are you looking forward to seeing return in the fall?

I can’t wait for Glee to return. I’m a little worried about how they are going to incorporate the graduating seniors & McKinley High… but I still have high hopes.

I also can’t wait for New Girl to return. I think this was the best new show to come out last fall.

I’m really excited about the all-star season of Dancing with the Stars. I haven’t watched in about a year because it had just gotten old and boring, but there are some great alumni returning!

What are you excited to see return to the television this fall?

3 On Thursday: Celebrity BFF

Hey friends! How are you this Thursday? I hope you are having a wonderful week and you have some amazing plans for the weekend ahead!

Thanks for coming back to link up with Cole and I again. Please sure to visit my awesome hostess with the mostess’s blog, All The Small Stuff.

Please remember if you are linking up, you MUST blog about the 3OT topic. Please do not just link to your blog for the purpose of getting blog traffic. This has happened many times in the past couple of week, and seriously – it’s just rude. Cole and I will be deleting links that don’t pertain to the topic.

3 on Thursday

This week’s topic is:

What three celebrities would you most like to be BFF’s with?

I’ve always had a soft spot for Mandy Moore, ever since her teenybopper pop singer days. She just looks so innocent and sweet! Plus, she’s gorgeous.

I want to be couple friends with Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck. She seems so relatable and down to earth, and perhaps one day I could meet my crush Matt Damon.

I also would love to be friends with Katie Holmes. 1) because she was on Dawson’s Creek, DUH. 2) she seems like she needs some genuine friends and 3) I am totally nosy and I want the skinny on Tom and Scientology.

I’d also love to be BFF’s with Lauren Conrad. She’s always totally impeccable, and despite being tabloid fodder for years, she’s stayed grounded. I am addicted to her beauty blog, The Beauty Department.

How about you? What celebrity could you see yourself being best friends with?

3 On Thursday & a BIRTHDAY!

Guess what guys? Today, Wednesday, is my best bloggy friend’s birthday! Please join me in wishing Cole a very happy birthday! I know you guys love her as much as I do, so please shower her with well wishes!

Thanks for sticking with me and being patient during my blog absence. I’m ready to start blogging again, and I promise an update soon.

Today’s topic is:

Tell us about your 3 favorite vacations, or any upcoming vacations you have planned.

My favorite place to relax and unwind is Edisto Beach, South Carolina. We go every May and August for a few days. I look forward to this all year long!

For the 4th (full post to come) we stole away for a few days to the Great Wolf Lodge in Concord, NC. It was incredible! They have a huge indoor waterpark and tons of amenities for kids. Jason and I plan to make this a yearly trip.

Every three years or so, we plan a week long trip to Disney. We’re going in December and I am so excited to take Cooper for the first time!

How about you? What plans do you have for summer?

Erin Condren Life Planner Link Up!

I'm joining in with Meredith from The Tichenor Family today. Meredith is hosting the 2012-2013 Erin Condren Life Planner link up. Won't you play along?

Y'all may remember that last year I did a YouTube vlog where I discussed the pros/cons of the Erin Condren Life Planner versus the MomAgenga. I had used the MomAgenda for about three years and last summer, I purchased both the MomAgenda and the Life Planner (thanks to a Plum District voucher freebie, I got the EC Life Planner free). If you watch my vlog, you'll see that the MomAgenda home management notebook ended up winning out for me. I used both and ultimately I preferred the MomAgenda.

I do still love MomAgenda, but this year I wanted a change. I've been stalking Erin Condren's twitter account, and I was pleased when she announced some changes to the 2012-2013 Life Planner. A few of the things I mentioned in my video were addressed. The spiral binding is more durable, and the monthly calendar now spans two pages, making it larger. There is also a nifty ruler to mark your page in the calendar.

So, with these changes, I decided to make the leap to the Life Planner this year. This year you can completely personalize your Life Planner, choosing both the design and the colors. I went with this design (very me, I think):

(sorry for the crappy iPhone pic - and for the fact that it's not straight - I can't figure out how to fix it on the Blogger platform)

The back is a black and white zebra print, which y'all know I love.

I am crazy about the pens I use in my planner. I have a system of colors that correspond to different activities. I don't use the Sharpie pens because they bleed (despite their advertisements that they do not - they do). These are Paper Mate Flair felt tips pens. This is my color system:

Black - Bills/personal due dates
Purple - Birthdays or anniversaries
Pink - Andrea
Green - Jason
Yellow - Cooper
Purple - Family plans/events
Blue, Orange, & Fuschia - Work

There you have it! I'd love to see your planner if you would like to link up with Meredith.

I hope you will come back and link up for 3 On Thursday. Here's the schedule for the rest of the month:

  • July 12th: Vacation Plans - tell us about your 3 best vacations, or the plans you have had/are planning for this summer!
  • July 19th: 3 celebrities you could see yourself being best friends with
  • July 26: 3 shows you are looking forward to seeing return in the fall
