Pregnancy Update

Today I am 27 weeks and 4 days pregnant. Holy cow! Where has the time went? I can’t believe I am officially in my third trimester and only have 12 weeks to go… and that’s IF the little man doesn’t decide to come early.

You would think that I would have some nursery pictures to show you, wouldn’t you? Well, I hope you aren’t holding your breath, because I haven’t even started. Wow, just typing that caused me to hyperventilate a little….

The last time I did a pregnancy update was at 18 weeks, and a lot has happened since then! I went in for my anatomy ultrasound when I was 21 weeks pregnant, and Cooper is perfectly healthy! Praise God!

The ultrasound itself was NOT a pleasant experience. The ultrasound technician was completely rude and did not converse with Jason or I at all. I had to ask her what I was looking at and if everything was normal, and even then I only got one word responses. The images themselves were super grainy (I haven’t even scanned them – they are that bad) and indistinguishable. My 2d images from my 3d ultrasound experience are 10x better. I am so incredibly grateful that I decided to get the 3d ultrasound done because it was a such a beautiful and special experience. I only get two ultrasounds through my insurance company, so if I that had been the final opportunity to see my baby in detail I would have been devastated.

I finally felt him move around 22 weeks. As a first time mom, I was completely panicked and worried at that point, but it turns out that I have an anterior placenta and it is normal to feel movement a little later in the pregnancy. That was the most amazing experience of my life – I can’t even put into words how it feels. I had felt love for my child since the beginning of the pregnancy, but at that point he was real to me, if that made sense. As much as he is moving now, I still stop and smile every single time I feel him move.

I went in for my one hour blood sugar test last week, and I failed. I am going in tomorrow morning for the three hour test, and let me tell you, I don’t have the greatest attitude about it. Can someone explain to me how it is realistic to expect pregnant women to fast from 10pm until 12pm the next day? I know it is necessary and I also know I’m being a whiny baby but DANG. I am not going to be a pleasant person to be around tomorrow. I’m just hoping I don’t get sick and have to do the whole test over again.

Jason and I started our childbirth awareness classes last week. They are hosted by our delivery hospital and run for two hours each week for four weeks. It makes for a long day after working for 10 hours, but the information is reassuring. I still have no idea where I stand as far as natural childbirth/medication and breastfeeding/formula goes but hopefully this will help me to really get a handle on what I want and what is best for baby.

Registering was such an overwhelming experience. The weekend that I registered, my mom, aunt, and cousin came down to help me. We headed out to Babies R Us on a Saturday, which was my first mistake. It was packed! I also registered at Target. I was completely panicked by the end of the day. It’s such a huge list and I just kept thinking “are people seriously going to buy me this?” I’m grateful to my cousin because she has passed down boy clothes, a highchair, a bath chair, bobby, bumbo, jumperoo, exercauser, and a bouncy chair so those are items I don’t need to purchase. If you want to critique my registry and offer some suggestions on what else I might need, let me know!

My family baby shower is next weekend and I am so super excited! I’ll take pictures and let you know how it all turns out.

I’ll leave you with a couple of recent pictures of me.

P.S. Did I mention that I am going to Disney World in December? Yeah, I’ll be 31 weeks pregnant. What was a I thinking?! To my credit, this was planned before I got pregnant. I love me some Disney but I’m very worried I will be miserable for this trip.

Glad everything is going good in your pregnancy! We did the childbirth classes and though they were kind of boring, they were extremely helpful! Registering is overwhelming... I was lucky that my boss gave me EVERYTHING they had... and I mean everything. It was awesome so we didn't have to register for much.

Good luck on your 3 hour test. Doesn't sound like fun at all.

Oh, and I'm 31 weeks right now... Disney sounds exhausting but fun. You'll do fine - just don't over-do it.

Oh wow, your tummy totally popped in the last 3 weeks, didn't it? You look FABULOUS and I adore the outfit you're wearing in the last pic.

If when you're at Disney you find it too exhausting, just rent one of their powered wheelchairs. You'll probably have fun on it! At least you won't have to deal with the heat.

As for the going natural/meds nursing/formula, that's so an individual thing. I can just tell you that I had Mikayla natural (just some injection that made me looped out of my mind) and I had Madison with an epidural. NIGHT AND DAY!!! The stuff they gave me for pain with Mikayla... what the hell is it called?... it was HORRIBLE. It almost made me catatonic to the point that the pain was so incredibly bad but I couldn't find the energy to SAY anything. Ugh. With Madison, I was already 6 cm dilated by the time I got to the hospital and didn't even get the epidural till I was fully dilated. But oh my. The instant relief you feel! And then you're able to concentrate and enjoy the last moments of your labor without screaming and writhing in pain.

As for the glucose test. Why do you think it will make you sick? It IS overly sweet. I had diabetes with Mikayla and hypoglycemia with Madison, which has stayed with me since.

Ooh shit, I wrote a novel here, didn't I? Sorry!

Justine :o )

You look fabulous!! I'm so glad that you gave us and update.

There's so much to do as you get ready for little Cooper. Don't let it overwhelm you. Just remember to ASK FOR HELP!! You should be getting all the rest you can during the last 12 weeks.

That said; I can't wait to see pictures of Cooper's nursery when it's done!

I am so glad to hear things are going well! I had to take the 3 hr. test too. THAT was a long day. Everything turned out fine on mine. I'm sure you will be fine too, they told me they have to do it even if your number is just barely over (mine was) to make sure. I hope that's the case for you as well.

We are going to Disney in Dec. too!! I am so excited, we can't wait. It's a surprise for the kids. They know we are going, but don't know when. :) Maybe we will be here at the same time? We are staying at POR. Are you staying on property?

Andrea - don't feel too bad about not having any nursery pictures ... we just bought paint for it today (and I'm 32 wks). Speaking of which, I'm sure you will be fine at Disney at 31 weeks. Just take it slow and enjoy your time with your family.

I love your pictures too!

I think I have posted on your blog before, but I haven't checked it out in a while! We have 2 chihuahuas & are expecting a baby boy at the first of the year. I am about 32 weeks pregnant now & don't worry about not starting your nursery, I haven't started mine either! I just ordered the furniture this weekend - GULP. Hope everything goes okay!

I'm adding you to my baby momma's list.

Bonnie :)

Poop on your first tech! Doesn't she know how important what she does is to new parents!

I want to register for someone! All of the new stuff is mind boggling! It's been 10 and 15 years since I did it...oh what fun!

If you're still up for it I would still love to meet in December, miserable or not! If you and Becca are here at the same time that would be a double blessing!

The countdown is on!

Glad to hear you're hanging in there! I remember being so overwhelmed by registering and all the STUFF! Yes, people will buy you anything and some ofit will turnout to be total crap and other items you will wish you had 3 of!!!! Not that you asked for opinions, but RE: natural vs. pain medication...girl! Why torture yourself?! Epidurals are your friend!! You can make up your own mind about breasfeeding vs. formula, but whatever you decide, if it's doesn't go as planned, it will be OK!!

Speaking strictly from a non-mom, but spend a lot of time with babies, you might think about registering for more Boppy covers. (or maybe you got a few from your family member) I know that it's nice to have a clean cover after the little man spits up on it.

Andrea! Super excited for you! You are so adorable! I'm not a mommy so I'm not even going to try and give you any advice!

I think that is great that you are still going to Disney World. It is, after all, the happiest place on earth!

I know this comment is late, but I just started reading your blog.
I went to Disney at 31 weeks with my 2nd. Wow. There was so much to do. We would get up early and eat a full-natural breakfast, then get going. After lunch I would take a nap, then we would head out. My husband would explore the hotel, or hit the bar and watch sports while I napped. The evenings were the best, and I tried to be back at the hotel by 10. It was a wonderful trip for just the 2 of us.
