You know, I’ve always been an over-the-top kind of girl. I’m the kind of girl that loves sequins. I enjoy sparkle. Animal print rocks my world. I love me some headbands, and flowers in my hair just makes my day. You guys have know this, right? In pretty much every picture I share, I’m either rocking a headband or a hair flower. Lovesit.
These accessories can be pricey, so decided to try my hair at making my hair hair bands and flowers. Easy peasy! Today I’m going to show you flowers – next week, headbands.
Start by purchasing some flowers. I’ve tried everything – Michael’s, AC Moore, Wal-Mart, Dollar Tree, Hobby Lobby. Just hunt up a coupon and set out to find you some flowers that will coordinate with your wardrobe and tickle your fancy.
You’ll also need:
- A hot glue gun
- Felt
- Hair clips (Find them at Sally’s, Walmart, or Michael’s)
- Headbands – just search for simple, unadorned headbands. You can also buy the plastic kind and cover them with ribbon.
- Glitter, sparkles, rhinestones, or beads to jazz up your flowers
Start by using scissors or wire clippers to snap the stem off the flower.
Use your fingers to pull off the back of the flower. You’ll want to remove all of the plastic – the green portion.
Pull the middle part out of the flower. What’s this called? A stamen? I have no idea.
This is what it will look like once you’ve removed all the plastic. Hold the petals in place with your fingers.
Add a rhinestone or sparkly bit to the middle of your flower.
Flip over the flower, and add a bit of felt to the back of the flower. The felt gives your clip something to hold on to, and I find it works better than gluing the clip directly onto the flower. The last step is to hot glue your clip to the middle of your flower.
Here’s the same flower, but with a bead instead of a rhinestone. I actually love using beads, because the hooks can be inserted into the middle of the flower, helping to hold the petals steady and secure.
Yeah, I think it is safe to say I went a little flower crazy, huh?
