Tuesdays at the Table

Hello ladies! Thank you so much for your kind words and well wishes last week. Yep, I’m pregnant, and I’m dying to share all the little details with my bloggy friends. Small problem, though: I am EXHAUSTED. And nauseous. And very, very hungry. But mostly I’m just tired and pukey.

Suggestions on how to deal with this? Hit me up. I’ll try anything.

So needless to say, by the time I drag myself home from 10 hours of work, I don’t really feel like blogging. I want to blog, and I want to catch up on your blogs, but seriously – I had no idea I would feel like this. Please cut me some slack and bare with me as I get myself together. I promise I’ll be back to posting daily as soon as I’m feeling better.

I wanted to jump on quickly and post this week’s Tuesday at the Table, but before we get started I need a favor! I’d love to find a couple of bloggers who would be willing to host TATT for the new few weeks. Interested? Email me or leave a comment in this post.

Andrea's Tues at the Table Red Gingham copy

Welcome to Tuesdays at the Table! Most of you know the drill. If you have a recipe, link up. If you don’t, click on the link to get some great recipe ideas. If you are new here, read on for more information on how to participate in Tuesdays at the Table.

To participate, simply create a food-related post: a recipe, a food tip, a tutorial, a product review - anything food related! Be sure to link back to My Chihuahua Bites! in your post so that your readers know where they can come to join the party.

Once your blog is posted, come back to this post and sign in with Mr. Linky. Please make sure that you are linking to your TATT post and NOT to your blog. I have had people complain that they can’t find your posts when they click on your link, and this is because you link to your blog and not to your post. If someone comes by later in the week and wants to visit you, they have a harder time finding your featured recipe.

Mr. Linky has been a little cranky lately – he works sometimes and sometimes he does not. If you don’t see him, please link up in the comments.

 Double Chocolate Gooey Butter Cake

I found this recipe at Kelly’s Korner – she has great stuff! I made it for my co-worker’s baby shower a few weeks ago and it was a huge hit.

Ingredients:

  • I cup of butter, melted
  • I package of chocolate cake mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 package of cream cheese, softened
  • 3-4 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 box (1 pound) of powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped nuts

Heat your oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, stir together cake mix, 1 egg, and 1/2 cup of melted butter until well combined. Pat into a 13X9 pan and set aside.

Beat cream cheese on medium speed until smooth. Add the 2 remaining eggs and the cocoa powder and beat until combined. Reduce speed to low and add sugar; beat until well combined. Beat in 1/2 cup melted butter and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth. Fold in nuts. Spread over cake mixture in the pan.

Bake 40-50 minutes. The center should remain a little gooey.

What’s cooking, ladies?

ohmygosh! You are going to love having a baby! I am soooo excited for you! I tried so hard several different times to comment when you were asking for advice a while back, but due to my own children I was never able to finish!
Anyway, yes. The first few months are EXHAUSTING! But you'll get your energy back in the next few weeks. Congrats!

Andrea, I'm sure you'll get lots of volunteers... but I'd be happy to be a faux you and host TATT while you acclimate to being pregnant. :-)

It will go away second trimester. The only thing that helped my nausea was to keep crackers by the bed and eat 5 of them before I left the bed.

Well I just sent you an email saying I would help before I read this. You know I;m here for you if you need the help, just holla!

Ginger is supposed to help. Eating before your feet hit the ground is good too. I tried everything! I found some all natural holistic pills that helped until I was put on some serious meds! Go to your local health food store and ask for Naux-Vomica pills. They are little tiny sugary balls in a little blue vial, you put a few under your tongue and it helps ease the nausea. I asked my OB and they are safe. If you can't find them and want to give them a try send me your address again and I'll get them to you ASAP.

Take care my friend!

Man...you sure do post some yummy recipes!!!!!!!!

Sorry...but that tired and pukey feeling is around to stay for a while. I personally think that the first trimester is worse than the 3rd...it was for me all 4 times :)

hugs to you!

Congratulations! You are going to feel much much better once you're out of that 1st trimester. That exhaustion is completely normal. By the 2nd trimester you'll have your energy back, and I always felt really good during that part.

Ginger helps with the barfy feeling. I also found that I couldn't let myself get hungry AT ALL or I'd feel sick. I nibbled on crackers, etc all day long.

Congrats! Congrats! Congrats! I am so excited for you! Babies are so special! and sweet and just make life even more fun!

I found a good way for me to keep the cruddies away was to eat about every hour or 2 hrs. not a lot but if I got the slightest bit hungry I would get a horrible headache and feel so nauseated! I wasn't one to throw up much (just a couple of times with both preg.) but I would just feel like I could at any moment!

I also made the hubby rub my back a lot. not because it made my stomach feel better but he didn't have to know that! I'm so happy for you! Yay!!!!

Andrea we use to tell the ladies in the OB clinic to use ginger and peppermint works too. I would suck on some peppermint candies they work pretty well. Congrats to you again!

Sara said...

Sorry to hear your feeling less than stellar. Those brownies look like they could cure anything though! Yum, yum!

I would be happy to host TATT for you, for however long you need. I love it and it's so much fun!

I was really bad with Austin from the start... Carry saltines with you everywhere..I mean get a bigger purse so you can have a pack in there.. and my lifesaver was Preggie Pops... They are lollipops.. Just google them.. I believe they have hard candies now too.. Ginger was the best one.

Congrats again... I'd love to help you host TATT as well.. Just let me know ... I've been meaning to email you and haven't had a chance I will get on that.

I was so very exhausted and nauseous with this last baby- all I wanted to do was sleep. I say the best advice I received was just to do what your body tells you and if that is to sleep, well, then sleep and worry about blogging later! We will all be here when you feel better!

Also, peppermint gum help me during the day.

Hope you get though this phase fast!!

For the nausea - suck on peppermint candies. They worked WONDERS for me!!!! I hope you get over the nausea soon. That is the not so fun part. The rest is great! :))

Hate to tell you this, but nothing really worked for me the first trimester. Tried to keep down crackers, but I usually couldn't. Actually lost a lot of weight the first trimester and pass my original weight until about 6 months. Unfortunately, the rest followed very quickly :( Just make sure and get your rest, I know it's frustrating, but when I came home from work, my hubby new I was all about eating whatever sounded good to me (usually some sugary cereal that I never ate before or mac and cheese). He was on his own, because I was crashed on the couch by 6 o'clock. By the 2nd trimester, I was back to normal and everything was great! Good luck...take advantage of the relaxing times and try to get the hubby to do a bit more around the house. Worked for me, unfortunately that didn't last either!! :)

You wake up in the second trimester, so get as much rest as you need to right now! It was great until you get sleepy again... ;) I'm not much help in the nausea dept... I was one of the lucky ones the first time around.

I'm a rather new blogger, and hosting a carnival would be a great gift to me. I do have Mr. Linky installed on my site...sort of...you know how he it. I would probably run it with hard links from the comments section or convince my husband, a computer programmer, to write a link-up widget for us to use for TATT. Thanks for the opportunity!

Congrats! I'm almost 11 weeks pregnant and the Preggy Pop Drops available here: http://www.mommybound.com/morning-sickness/preggie-pop-drops.aspx?gclid=CIL69KOL_ZoCFQpgswodaixZdw or at Walgreens or Target were a very big help. They have all natural ingredients and they taste good, too. Some mornings when I was too sick to eat, I would pop a few of these and it would get me through. Good luck with everything!

i was tired and pukey with princess. i know how you feel (like so many others do, too) i kept a stack of salt-free saltines EVERYWHERE (i noticed the salty ones made me more "pukey" - could have been just me). i had a pack in the bedroom beside my bed, one in the car, one at my desk, and a few in a baggie in my purse. i drank sprite. ginger ale made me feel worse, too. praying for you and the little "bun." :)

i'm making asparagus and mushrooms today. you can find that here: http://allthisistrue.blogspot.com/2009/06/tuesdays-at-table-asparagus-and.html

also, i would be happy to host TATT for you, if you need more folks (just not next tuesday 6/16, as we will be on vacation)

Congratulations! That is wonderful news. Thanks for stopping by and I love Tuesdays at the Table. Try eating some dry crackers or ginger nut cookies in the morning; the dryness and ginger both help with nausea, particularly the morning sickness kind. A little ginger beer would help too but not too much and only after you've shaken it...you don't want it too fizzy! Good luck and all the best from Scotland. Helen xxx

Justine said...

Well, if the nausea is super bad, you can ask your OB to prescribe something. Other than that, I'm not too sure. Freshly made ginger tea works for many, but I've gotta tell you, it tastes like shit.

Feel better girl! Only 8-1/2 more months to go!

Justine :o )

Congrats on the baby! Almonds can help with the nausea and there is also a product called Preggie Pops (lollipops) that are supposed to help but didn't do much for me. Everyone is different though, right?

Thanks for stopping by my blog and again, CONGRATS!

CONGRATS!!! I had hyperemesis when I was pregnant with DS. My OB had me keep sugarcubes by my bedside and pop a couple in my mouth before I even got up in the morning. I used to carry them around with me everywhere.. With the next baby, my OB had me sock on gobstoppers of jawbreakers. I found the cinnamon ones to be especially helpful. Good luck! :)

Congratulations! Saltine crackers (I know very cliche)worked for me. Whenever I felt pukey, I would grab a few of these to stop the wave of nausea.

My step daughter is also pregnant and she has been eating ginger snaps. She says they work, who knows....I drink a lot of ginger tea for acid reflux and it works for me.

Andrea I have to say the beginning of pregnancy is the hardest part but I was always told a little morning (all day) sickness means you are having a healthy pregnancy. I hope you feel better soon. The energy comes back a little in the middle months, just eat high protein stuff and don't over work yourself. This is YOUR time.. YOUR last times for it to just be YOU! Take advantage of it.
Go get a pedicure!

Or come by and sign up for my giveaway... :)

Morning sickness: saltine crackers by the bed. As soon as you open your eyes, before you sit up, chew a couple of them with just enough water to get them down. A couple of deep breaths help also. The nausea won't last long. Excited I found your blog.

I am excited for you. A baby changes your life for the better. Love grows everywhere it is planted. It is fun and it is work but it is the most rewarding experience.
