What’s on my camera?

I have a ton of very random pictures I’d like to share with you, so please join me for today’s edition of What’s On My Camera.

DSC01758_edited

This is my super cute niece, L, in the super adorable tutu and shirt I had made for her birthday. The shirt says “Princess L” – don’t you love the zebra? She insisted on wearing her high heel shoes with this ensemble.

Here’s L on Easter Sunday, posing in my sunglasses. She’s taking after her aunt, for sure! Are you wondering why I cut off her head in the picture above? I just don’t feel comfortable featuring other people’s children on my blog, unless I have their permission. I feel safe posting this picture because the sunglasses obscure half her face.

DSC01723 Here’s Jason and I on Easter Sunday. This picture makes me laugh! Jason is such a sorority girl – he thinks we have to be cheek to cheek in each picture. It drives me mad! Apparently I was trying to get away from him when my mom snapped this picture.

I showed you George in his blonde wig but check out JC! By the way, he really hated this. I should have got some audio of his reaction when I was trying to put on the wig.

I am so not a rocker chick, but I seriously want to be. I want to be a girl who can pull off lots of eyeliner and a smoky eye. I picked up Bare Escentual’s Rocker Eye kit at Sephora a few weeks ago, and this is what I came up with. I’ll be showing you a tutorial of this look sometime next week.

Why are these on my camera? Because I randomly take pictures of people on TV when they have cute hair, outfits, or accessories. Crazy, I know. I love Heidi’s hat and Lauren’s headband.

Can you identify this creature? He made an appearance in our pond a few weeks ago. At first, all I could see was the tail, and I totally thought an anaconda was coming to eat JC. Then I saw a glimpse of the head, and was convinced it was an alligator. I’ve since narrowed it down to an otter or a minx. What do you think?

Justine left me this comment on yesterday’s post:

Let me ask you this, since you answered all those other questions. Do you ALWAYS look so put-together? I mean, do you ever just lounge around in a t-shirt and a ripped pair of shorts? Is your hair always done to perfection, in addition to your makeup. 'Cause really? You're starting to piss me off with that shit. I want to see you look nasty!!!!!!!!!

And take me to Edisto with you. That way I can see you first thing in the morning.

Well, Justine, that’s a fair question. No, I don’t look like that all the time. I look put-together 10% of the time – usually on weekends, and usually when we have somewhere to go, like a family event, party, meeting, etc. That 10% of the time, I take pictures, because I need to remind myself and my husband that I have the capacity to look decent, should I choose to do so.

I look a hot mess Monday-Friday. I’m not a morning person, and I’m usually running around like a crazy person because I overslept and am late for work. This results in me going to work in a thrown together, slightly wrinkled outfit, with wet hair (and my hair DOES NOT look cute when it dries naturally), and minimal makeup. In fact, when I do get my act together and dry my hair and properly apply makeup for work, my co-workers say things like “Oh my gosh, you look nice today! What did you do different?”

When I get home, I immediately change my clothes, as George and JC shed terribly and I won’t pick them up or let them sit on my lap if I have on my “good clothes.” My bad clothes, therefore, consist of old white Hanes t-shirts, covered in random stains, and some sort of gym pants or shorts. It is not cute.

I’ve shared before that I’m ruthless about pictures of myself. I take multiple pictures, trying to get a shot that doesn’t show my wonky eyes or my many chins. The bad shots get deleted. Now, if I somehow got access to my mom’s camera – then you’d see what I look like the rest of the time. Although I’ve totally tried to delete pictures off her camera, and she’s banned me from touching her camera in the future as a result.

Some of you probably think this sounds terribly vain. Well, I’ll admit to being vain some of the time. But the truth is that I choose to present my best self on my blog. I can keep it real any time I want, just by looking in the mirror. I don’t claim to be a beautiful girl. I know what I look like, and it isn’t perfection. I’m overweight. My skin has been breaking out lately like I’m back in high school. My cheeks are always red, and my hair only looks decent when I spend 20 minutes fixing it. I know this about myself, and I’m sure you have noticed some of it from the pictures I share. Trying to look as nice as possible with what I have to work with (as far as the pictures I share on my blog) is a pride thing for me, I guess. If that makes me a bad person, so be it.

With that said, here are some less than perfect pictures of myself:

ajmeltingresizeI’m pretty sure we had both been drinking.

Oh Andrea, I love this post and how you always keep it real. Nobody is perfect, but I must say that you always look beautiful in your pictures. I also need you to come to my house and do my make-up because I could use some help! I am with you on the whole smoky eye/rocker chick thing.

I love the random pics and your Easter picture is so cute! I cannot figure out what that creature is in your pond.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. Have a great night.

ok first off Andrea I don't think your vain because I have to admit I do the exact same thing with my hubby's camera. He hates it, but I am very particular about me in pics because OMG for the same reasons you have that is so funny. Its like I am reading about myself. But I do have to say I think you are so cute!

Cute post! I am SOOOOO thankful to know that you don't always look 100% put together. I was starting to get worried. I kid. Love the pics though! You really do have the best hair, and you always look 'rockstar' to me! I'm going to have to try that Bare Minerals eye set. The tu-tu and t-shirt you made for your neice is ADORABLE!!!

Hope you have a fab Friday!

You are too cute! I think you look great. :-)

"Put together" or not you are beautiful!! Love the hat in the last picture!! I am all about polka dots!!

Oh yeah, baby! I actually LOVE the non-prettied pictures of you! You're a very pretty girl (okay, woman) and you really don't need the makeup and the hair to look that way. I can totally dig that you'd rather post the "prettied" pictures though. But have you seen some of the crap I've posted pictures of? And then there's Jill, who to get back at me posts more horrendous pics of me. I'm fat, my skin is horrible and I'm ugly. So be it. LOL

Justine :o )

Things I like about this post: Your adorable neice and her adorable tutu and tshirt; the fact that you took pictures of the tv during The Hills; JC in the wig; the fact that you are so honest and real.
Things I do not like: that horrible thing in the pond!!! Did you ever figure out what it was??

I love the outfit for L. Totally cute! You look great in the last pic! Makeup or no, you still look good. :)

Totally think the picture of the strange creature is an Otter as well.. I think you deserve cuddos for taking photos of yourself and allowing others too. I hate having my picture taken, I never think I look good and it will come back to bite me in the A**! later when my kids are grown and there are no pictures of me with them or pictures of me anywhere. My husband is always taking photos of me with his phone and I get my hands on it and DELETE..lol

I edit pictures of me too. Therefore there aren't very many of me for that reason. My mom also has all the ones where I look crazy and she shows them to people! SIGH!

Hi Andrea,

Even your non-fave pics of you are cute. I think you just ooze cheer and beauty , which is precisely why I come to visit you. I also agree with you showing your best face on your blog, who doesn't? Plus you are always real. I do look forward to the rocker chic tutorial because I want to rock it like you do! :)

I think you look great no matter what. I think its the happiness that radiates from you.

How adorable. I love all these pictures. Your niece looks so chic in those sunglasses...and I swear I love that haircolor on you in that one pic!! Jason is too cute. Can't blame a guy that wants to be cheek to cheek. Hehe!

Hi!
I just wanted to let you know that I really like your "rocker chick" look. I don't wear a lot of makeup either, but am interested in learning how. Have you heard of Lauren Luke? She's this amazing girl from the UK who's made lots of makeup tutorial videos. I did a post about her awhile back. You should check her out.

Ok, so I have a question/comment..whatever it's called. I've been wearing makeup roughly 26 years now. I've always taken pride in that I apply it decently and I don't look stuck in some weird time warp like some women are prone to do.

Eyeliner. I've always worn eyeliner under my bottom lashes. I read alot of magazines and I saw recently (not sure which one) where it says to NOT put eyeliner on the bottom of your eyes and they will look bigger and brighter. Ugh. I can't win! I do have small-ish eyes and I do want them to look larger. I am afraid to say I may do that particular suggestion daily but if I'm dressing up to go somewhere nice- I want that eyeliner on the bottom!

What do you think? Should we drop the eyeliner from the bottom and let our eyes pop? Or does that idea really work?

I hate eyeliner confusion.

p.s. I refuse to wear it like my teenager. She wears it black and thick and by golly...it works for her some how some way. I'm all about a brown or subtle green and/or blue.

I stumbled onto your blog this evening. I have a little advice... You mention that your "face is breaking out and your cheeks are always red." Go to a detmatologist. I think you have the skin condition that I have called ROSACEA. It is treatable and the earlier you get started, the better the results. Best Wishes, young lady.
