Friend Makin’ Monday

Hooray for holiday weeks! I usually have Mondays off and work 8:00-6:00 Tuesday through Friday, but since Friday is an agency holiday, I get to work 8:00-4:00 Monday through Thursday. Y’all, I have no idea what I will do with those extra two hours in my day!

This weekend was spring cleaning here at the House-hold, and Jason and I are absolutely beat. My parents are coming into town on Thursday and I always get a little crazy before they come. I’m also having our builder’s inspection on Tuesday and while I don’t necessarily care about impressing our builder, I figure it would be easier to identify what needs repairs if everything is neat and tidy. Just don’t open my closets, mmmkay?

As always, today is Friend Makin’ Monday, hosted by Kasey at All That Is Good. Today Kasey has asked us to share five things that make us mad. Here we go!

#1: I hate it when people attack me for no reason.

I am not an easy going person by an stretch of the imagination. I like to think I am, but the truth is that I’m a little bit of a drama queen. I overreact to things; I get extremely upset and agitated when I feel I’m being attacked for no reason. Last week at work, a client’s sister complained about me to district office. I checked my voicemails on Thursday night and had a message from someone higher up the food chain wanting to investigate the sister’s complaints. I obsessed all night long and did not sleep a wink. I spent the entire night analyzing every word I’d said and action I’d taken to see if I had done something wrong. What really set me off is that I’ve worked HARD for this client – I’ve gone above and beyond what was called for, and the sister still didn’t think I had done enough. It ended up working out in the end, and district agreed I had done everything that could be done, but I’m still angry about it, to tell you the truth.

Here’s the deal: if I’m wrong, I’m wrong. I take responsibility and I try to learn from my mistakes. I’m not afraid to apologize. But don’t lie or attack me for no reason.

2: Do your dishes, please!

My husband is allergic to dishes. He comes in every day from work and dumps his lunch dishes in the sink and leaves them there for the cleaning fairy to wash. The sink and dishwasher could be empty, and he’d still leave the dishes in the sink for me to do later. If if cook dinner and he “cleans up”, I will later come into the kitchen and find this:

Picture 066

Yes, I took a picture. I’m sending it to his mother. Maybe she can pass on the message that the fairy is on strike and HE NEEDS TO DO HIS OWN DISHES!

3: Shopping cart hell

I hate, hate, hate when people don’t return their shopping carts either to the store or to the cart corral. I have three dings in my car to show for other people’s laziness. They don’t just stay where you put them, you know? They have wheels.

4: Dog hair here, there everywhere

Picture 777

See these faces? They are cute, huh? Well, they also produce enough hair to make some poor balding man a toupee. My clothes fall into two categories: ones I can wear around the boys, and ones I can’t. I have to change clothes as soon as I walk into the house. Is there a pill for that?

5: Grocery store madness

The military commissaries (grocery stores) are madness on paydays. It is like Black Friday, but people are shopping for groceries. Getting in and out is like running a race. Oh, and you should be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes in line to check out. All my fellow military wives can probably attest to this phenomenon – it is madness.

Well, there you go! I could share many more, but my true hot button issues might upset some people, so perhaps I will save them for another day.

How about you – what makes you mad? Tell me in the comments!

Ooooh, can't wait to hear about your "true hot button issues!" -- curious minds want to know! :-) And I can't stand it when people don't return their shopping carts. I should have added that to my list! Have a great week -- I'm envious of your schedule!

Unreturned shopping carts is also a pet peeve of mine! I laughed out loud when you said you were sending a picture of the dishes to his mother!! Too funny!! I gave up a long time ago getting my hubby to do the dishes! UGH!!!

Cleaning makes me so tired too but it's always a good feeling when it's done.

Girl, lots of things make me mad. In the last couple of years the media has made me mad. They're so one sided.

Cute Puppies!! Thank you for the prayers about my job loss and the advice on the lamps!! I am going to try and find some ribbon this week! Also I have some big news on my blog today!!! :)

Hi! Great list! Yes, shopping carts are horrible. And also people who don't watch when they open their car doors and leave big dings in your car. That is horrible!

Have a super day and a great week!

XOXO

I can't stand doing dishes. Really don't like them at all.

What else? Hmm... LA drivers, people that don't hold doors open, etc... the list goes on :)

Did your package arrive yet? I sent one to another friend, too and she got hers yesterday. Let me know.

What's up with husbands? The kitchen will be spotless and the dishwasher empty and he knows it, but what happens? He puts his dishes in the sink! Drives me crazy!

Katy said...

I can relate totally to the over analyzing of what people say about me. I dont know if I could ever go back to work, people are so weird!
hahaha.

I also have issues with shopping carts. If I can return with the help of a two year old, then you can handle it too.

I have cat hair everywhere. At least they're cute right?

Diane said...

in my defense.... (lol) i rarely take the shopping cart to the corral. but this is because my daughter and i are both disabled. so it's hard enough just going shopping.

and have you ever noticed that the cart corral is NO WHERE NEAR the handicapped parking??? that doesn't make sense. obviously there should be one close by.

i DO always make sure the cart is secure in the spot i leave it though. and actually, more often than not i will push it back up the the area close tot he door of the store. because that's closer than the corral.

the biggest thing EVER that makes me angry is when people use words like "stupid", "dumb", "retarded", "gay", "shut up", etc. words shouldn't sting.

Great list. The shopping cart thing drives my husband crazy so I am always thinking of him when I put my cart back. Great list...and I'm sure you were right about the work thing...that sister...grr.

I don't like to be attacked either! Me and my mother had a row just last night actually! oh well! have a great night!

HERE HERE COMISSARIES SUCK! But you know after some investigating I can get cheaper groceries off post and since I am up at the butt crack of dawn I just go to a 24 hour grocery store!
I hate the shopping cart thing too. Especially when I could be parked in the space if 5 people hadn't left their carts there. UGHHHHH!

Come on now, I want to know what your REAL hot buttons are!

Now why the hell would you go food shopping on FRiday if you know every other military wife is going to be doing the same thing? Save it for Monday!

At least your hubby runs water and soap on his dirty dishes. Jimmy just leaves his as-is, so they get nice and crusted up for me.

Justine :o )

The cleaning fairy-hee hee!
I'll add people who do not say thank you when you let them into traffic or hold the door open for them etc. just plain rude!!!!

Shawn said...

You're so funny. Let it roll off your back, this coming form the person who couldn't let he PTSA woman go right?

Shopping cart madness...I always try to park next to one since I figure at least they wont roll into my car there and if that spot is taken I have my 14 year old take it back for me, that's one of the reasons I had kids!

Have a great Short work week!

I refuse to shop on base ever again! That place gave me ulsers for the 3 years that I did go there. I'm a dedicated Wal-Mart shopper now that we finally got one in our town (yeah its 2009 and we just got a Wal-Mart)!

Dishes and my husband are a lost cause. This too gives me ulsers ;)

Wow- I wish we had a Cleaning Fairy at our house. When you get tired of her, will you send her my way???

LOL! Thanks for the chuckle.

Hope your visit with your parents goes well this weekend and enjoy your short work week.

I totally relate to you on the comissary madness (especially on the first of the month, when retirement checks come in)! Seems like everyone is less friendly and snappy... This time I had a checker argue with me over the price of a stupid bag of potatoes! ugh, people, lol... Glad everything worked out for ya on the job... :)

Amy said...

OH goodness, I can relate to #1. I will lose sleep, and worry worry worry over the slightest thing like that. Sad, but true. I need to learn to let the little things go, but it's hard when you are stubborn like me. LOL!

Xazmin said...

Great list! I hear ya about some of our "issues" maybe making people upset.

I have some REAL issues I could go off about!

Awesome list! I also have an issue with returning shopping carts. It's not that hard people!!

Oh, and I am anal about keeping lint rollers in every room of the house (and my car) to take the hair of all three dogs off me! :-)

Heather said...

i am so with you on dirty dishes! just because our feet are smaller and we can get closer to the sink than our men doesn't mean we should be the only ones who do the dishes! having to clean a dish or container that's been sitting with leftover funk on it for hours is the worst!

GREAT list! I also hate the grocery cart phenomenon. But MY bigget pet peeve is when you walk into Walmart and there are NOOOO carts. I mean, it's not as if they don't have enough dang workers standing around. I raised a stink there the other day about it. It's totally ridiculous.

The dishes thing was on my list too!

:)

spleeness said...

amen to the dirty dishes pile! You know what I also hate?? When they're not even in the sink but instead piled up next to it full of wrappers, banana peels, etc. I fantasize about being wasteful and just living off paper plates.

The Blonde Duck said...

Tacky people, people who comment/ steal/ screw with other people's food, people who park themselves at your desk and don't shut up while you're trying to eat...I can go on.

hellosweetworld said...

I'm sure i could go on forever about what makes me mad but one of them is people who drive in the left lane going way slower than everyone else! I've encountered that lots lately and it's annoying!

Also, my boyfriend and i walked out of the supermarket the other day to find a cart kissing up on his passenger side door. Argh!!! The bad part was the buggy holder thingy was right next to us!

#2, AMEN!!!

I find it amazing that my husband NEVER sees clutter or anything dirty until I have brought it to his attention at least 5 times. Then he's like..."Oh yeah...." Humph.

The commissary is pure madness. I had finally come the conclusion that I can't go when I'm in a bad mood. Seriously. You have to be in the right frame of mind to tackle that place near payday.

kkrowan said...

The commisary here is the worst!!!! Ugggg.

heidi said...

Rob will take the time to clean up the table and rinse and stack them neatly in the sink, but will NOT load the dishwasher. What IS that? How hard is it to do?? Crimeny.

Julie said...

You would think after 17 years that my husband would know ...that...I hate it when I come home to a mess in the kitchen. I have just given up..:(!
Shopping carts bug me too....someone always leaves one...in ....a really good parking spot...:( now that makes me MAD!

Did someone say something about a cleaning fairy...she's so elusive. Great list! Can I just second the dog hair...I have a black lab who lives indoors and I just want to scream somedays. She's a smart girl and she knows to stay in hiding on days when I'm cleaning b/c that's when I really get frustrated...when I'm sweeping and vaccuming up dog hair. UGH! I threatened last summer to shave her bald. LOL. So, you'll be hosting FMM next week?! YAY!

Enjoy your short week! Lucky girl. :)

I want to know how your MIL responds to the picture of the dishes in the sink. I'm going to have to try that one.

Great list you have.
Something that makes me mad
HMMM..... Fake people.

I am doing a round robin on Friday April 10th if you want to come by and share something fun.

Carrie said...

So true about the dog hair Dixie my chihuahua sheds so much I just don't understand where all this hair comes from its crazy!

Jules said...

Yay for a short week! I'd love some time off this week. I am with you on the dishes...it drives me nuts! Hubby does them sometimes, but not as often as I would like.

I thought I was the only one that had certain clothes to wear around the dogs! I have the same issue. They run right up to me when I have my work clothes on and then I have to get them a quick pat on the head and run upstairs and change. I'm hoping now that they have been groomed they won't shed as much.

Adjust your budget or shopping habits to shop on off payday weeks. Seriously, it is SO much nicer to shop at the commissary when there are fewer people there! And I know you work Mon-Fri'ish, but I think it's like Wed or Thurs AM's that are the slowest. I've been in the Air Force one in Charleston when it was awesomely quiet. LOL
