I think I might just be done with my holiday baking and crafts! Well, I say that, but I keep seeing all these adorable creations on other people's blogs, so who knows.... Yesterday I did a ton of baking: peppermint bark, oreo balls, cranberry-pistachio bark, homemade marshmallows, and toffee. I am exhausted.
I'm also behind on my commenting, and my Google Reader is starting to pile up. This week is going to be a little crazy for me, as the work audit I told you about starts today, and my parents are coming this weekend, so I've got to get my house in order. I promise I will be by as soon as I get a chance! My apologies!
Here's the topiary tutorial, as promised. You'll need:
One terra cotta pot
Moss
Wooden dowel
Styrofoam circle and square
Hot glue gun
Paint
Faux berries
Glitter

Start by painting your dowel a dark brown.
Paint your styrofoam circle in a color that compliments your berries.

Paint your pot. It may take several coats if you are using a lighter color.

While your paint is still wet, glitter that sucker. There is no picture of this step, but you'll need to spray your pot with sealant. Let it dry overnight.
Cut your berries off the "vine", leaving a little bit of wire attached to each individual berry. You'll need about 6-7 bunches of berries for this project.

Insert the dowel into the bottom center of your styrofoam circle. Begin inserting your berries in a circle around the dowel. Once you've completed the first circle, set your dowel aside. I find it works best to work in circular rows. You want the berries to be as close together as possible. You'll need to use your hot glue gun; otherwise the berries will fall out.

All done! Now insert some styrofoam into your pot.

Place your dowel back into your styrofoam circle, and then into the styrofoam in the pot. Cover up the styrofoam with some moss. Just tuck and glue it into place.
Finished project, side by side with the original project. The one you see in this post is on the left. I call it my leaning tower of berries.

I had a few more clear glass ornaments, and I decided to try something different. I thinned out some glue with water and poured it inside the ornament. Then I let it swish around until the inside was coated. Let the excess glue run out. Pour in some glitter, and shake to coat. I really like how it turned out!

oh they turned out so great! I had a couple clear glass ornaments left from the year I filled them with snow as well but instead I filled them with little dried pink leaves to go with my pink and white themed tree. I love when that works out! Your glitter ornaments turned out awesome too!
Those topiaries are wonderful! I am so taking notes. ;-)
I love the glittery ornaments! And easy!
Hope you have a great visit with your parents!
Turned out fabulous! Love it!
Holy baloney! That looks amazing, but also, how in the world do you have the patience to glue aaaaaall those 'lil balls on there! Lol! That project would push me over the edge, I think.
You're so crafty! I don't think I mentioned before, but I love the letter wreath you did awhile ago, too!
Gorgeous!! I love both the topiary and the ornaments!

I am doing all of my baking today with my sis- a yearly tradition-but just not quite in the mood yet! More coffee! I loved your craftiness so much I had to mention you in my post today, girlie!!!!
You are so crafty! And props to you for baking all day. I would've stopped at the first batch!
wow. you have been one busy girl!! i want to make peppermint bark really bad!!! i LOVE it and I think it would be something fun to make with my kids... they could break up all the peppermint. :) do you just melt milk chocolate then put it on a cookie sheet or bar pan and then do the white chocolate with the peppermint mixed in then pour it ontop... or do you add different stuff or do it different? I have never made it... only eat it. :)
anyway... i love the tutorial... thank you for sharing. i'm going to see if i can gather the stuff to make one when i get to the craft store... but i have so much shopping to do to finish up Christmas shopping that i'm not sure i'll be able to get to it. but we'll see.
and your glitter ornaments came out AWESOME!! I found some clear ornaments in my decorations box... i am going to try to do something with them. :)
have a great monday!!
xoxoxoxo
I love those ornaments...you are a crafty goddess!
Great tutorial! I wish I could say I would make one, but seeing that I'm just getting around to decorating my tree...yeah, probably won't happen☺ It is way cute though. Maybe I'll be more organized next year. The ornaments are cute too! You've been a busy girl☺
I LOVE the glitter ornaments and you weren't even planning to make that! The BEST!! :) ~ Kim
Love it.
You got an award over @ my blog! :o)
Fabulous as usual! I love reading your blog!!! Your projects are seemingly simple and creative I am having to make a crafty list because you have inspired me!! LOL!! I think my first project is going to be a spin off of your Peppermint wreath!! But for Valentines day! I won't start that till after the New year though!!
So cute! Yeah, so I totally did the glue glitter ornament thing a few weeks back...umm not so cute. I am jealous yours is so much better! ;)
i love the clear glass ornaments!
how do you make homemade marshmallows and what is an oreo ball?
you sound super busy, so i'm just wondering about these two items. i don't need to know the answer anytime soon - just being curious :)
*Gasp* GORGEOUS!
Wow... I'm amazed at all you've done this holiday! Thanks for the topiary instructions. Yours look great!
Cool topiaries. I'm tempted to try one, but I don't even know if I'll finish the crafts I've already started. It sounds like you've been super busy. I can't believe you got so much done!
The topiary looks easy enough. Well...*you* made it look easy, but this is *me* we are talking about, and if it *can* be screwed up, I usually *do* screw it up.
BUT...what I really wanna know is; how hard are the homemade marshmallows? I love homemade mallows but have never made them myself.
oh - the bath scrub turned out great!!!!! i mixed up enough for 9 (approximately 2c) containers of it, and my hands are so soft from all that mixing because i did it by hand.
this is the first time i've made anything homemade for christmas gifts.
rent they comfy though? ANother really good deal I got, you might be interested in, or know about, in the front section at Target they have tons of cute shirts and jackets for little dogs for 2.50 a pop. I snagged a bunch for my two Chi's.
