Owning a hot glue gun does not make you an artist...

"Owning a hot glue gun does not make you an artist." - my darn husband, every time he sees me pulling out the hot glue gun. Said glue gun is responsible for three extremely painful burns on my hands, so said glue gun is currently chilling out behind the couch, where I threw it in the midst of a hissy fit.

I wanted to share with you guys a super cheap, super easy, super useful Christmas gift idea that would be awesome for just about anyone in your life - teachers, daycare workers, sunday school volunteers, secret santas, etc.

Ta-da: personalized coasters!

I wish I could take credit for this idea, but I can't. I've seen these done by a couple of people in blogland, most recently at Shell In Your Pocket. (By the way, I just realized I purchased the same exact stamp as Sandy Toes. I swear I wasn't trying to completely copy you!)

All you need is:
  • tile, found any home improvement store (32 cent per tile)
  • a decorative stamp ($8, or use one you already have)
  • waterproof stamp pad in the color of your choice ($8)
  • some sort of sealant spray ($5, found with the spray paint at Lowes)
  • protective felt or rubber for the bottom of the tile ($4 per pack at Michaels)

Simply place the rubber or felt on the bottom of the tile, stamp, and once dry, spray the tile with the sealant. Easy peasy!

I'm currently working on the topiary you see below (which, by the way, is responsible for the massive hot glue burns on my hands). You know how you start a project and then realize all the things you should do differently? Yeah. I should have chosen smaller berries, or painted the styrofoam red. I actually ran out of berries so we'll see how the finished project looks.

What projects are you working on?

I love the coasters idea! I'm going to do that at my next Craft Party!!! Thanks for passing along this great idea!

I'm not working on any projects right now. I'm in a Cookie Swap and trying to finish the cookies so I can get them in the mail.

I've had my fair share of hot glue burns. I find that some glues burn worse than others.

I have a list of about a gazillion projects I'm working on. Today I made lots of crayon rolls, flannel napkins, button covered hair ties, button covered push pins, and a couple of bags. Don't be too impressed-I don't usually get that much done! lol

I'm working on a stocking for DH ... that I've been working on since Sept 07, lol. That's cross stitch for you. Not to many other projects since it's hard to bring all that stuff on deployment.

I love those fleur de lis coasters! They truly look like something you'd see in a high end shop. They'd also be cute just propped up on an easel as decoration.

I love making those! They turned out great. And BTW there is a whole book called glue gun decor so using a glue gun DOES make you an artist!

OOOHH I like! I also want that topiary. I am working on NO projects-just keeping my head afloat with my xmas jewelry orders- this is a crazy time for me. But even if it wasn't I am not crafty-you would think I would be since I make jewelry but alas I am missing that gene!LOL!

Cute coasters! I have many scars from the glue gun...my seven year old does a better job with that evil thing than I do....it's out to get me!

I just got a glue gun a few weeks ago and am now working on all of the projects I had stockpiled. I've burned myself quite a few times in the short time that I've had it. My husband freaks out when I pull out my glue gun too. But he's not worried for MY safety (or sanity) - he is worried about the safety of our chihuahua who wants to be in my lap at all times.

I'm really impressed with your coasters! I wish I knew someone who would really use them...

I own a hot glue gun, it looks swanky hanging out there in the garage - next to the other real tools.

I am not a crafty sort of person, but if someone needs to borrow it from me - I have it!

thanks for visiting me!

I'm so glad you stopped by and said hello! From the words "glue gun" I was hooked on your blog. I like to go to Michael's and pretend I can make some of that fabulous stuff....usually I just end up with a lot of supplies.

I love the coasters...I'm inspired! Let's see if I can bring myself to put the stamp on the tile.

I am pretending Saturday in the upstate didn't happen. :-)

What neat coasters! Thank you for sharing:)

I know what you mean about the hot glue gun burns! I would have winged it too! ;) LOL

I la-la-la-la-LOVE that idea!

I burn myself with my hot glue gun all the time. I say very VERY bad words as it's happening, and I'm ashamed of that.

Still, I'm a glue gun addict.

Ya know what's funny, I've missed my blog friends over the few days I was gone for Thanksgiving. Ha! Crazy.
